Luo Dinghua (1914-2012) of Shanglin, Guangxi Province, China, was a famous painter in China. He was a member of the China Artists Association, a member of the China Research Institute of the Art of Calligraphy, and a staff member of the Guangxi Research Institute of Literature and History. There are real international auction prices for his works. He was adept at painting carp; admiration for him can be seen from the saying, “Baishi’s Shrimp from western Hunan and Dinghua’s fish from Guangxi”. The carp created by him have a special charm; they display different poses and have varied expressions, looking very lively. His works are popular inside and outside of China and appreciated by people of all tastes, for they are vividly colorful, showing both the inner spirit and the outer forms of the fish. His works have been collected by the Cultural Palace of Nationalities of China, the Tiananmen in Beijing and the Memorial Hall of Zhou Enlai in Jiansu Province, China. Many of his works have been shown in exhibits held in countries such as Canada, Germany and Singapore and collected by people inside and outside of China, where he enjoys quite a high reputation.
