Guo Ruyu was born in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China in 1941. He is a National First Class Artist of China, a member of the China Artists Association, a Professional Master of Painting at the Sichuan Province Academy of Poetry, Calligraphy and Painting, the Dean of the Oriental Art of Painting Academy, and Vice Dean and Professor at the Chengdu Art Academy. There are real international auction market prices for his works. He specializes in Chinese paintings of carp, bird-and-flower, figures, landscapes, and modern color-ink paintings. His works express originality in both fine-brush and freehand styles. He is also adept at poetry and calligraphy and has a profound knowledge of traditional Chinese literature and philosophy. His artistic accomplishments are outstanding. He enjoys the titles of “Matchless in All Three: Poetry, Calligraphy and Painting”, “Master Hand of Lotus”, and “Carp King of the Orient”. In 2005, three organizations, including the Calligraphy and Painting Artists Association of China, jointly conferred upon him the “Outstanding Achievement Award in the Art of Contemporary Calligraphy and Painting in China.” In 2006, four organizations, including the China Association of International Artists and Litterateurs, jointly selected him to be the recipient of the first medal awarded in China for outstanding achievement in art and literature, the Gold Medal in the Art of Calligraphy and Painting. His artworks have been collected by the Great Hall of the People in China and famous museums internationally.
